Phases of Planet Venus
The phases of the planet Venus, captured over the time frame of January through May of 2012.
“The Planet Venus, The Roman goddess of love and beauty and the closest planet to us especially now just as it gets closest it will transit across the sun soon. This sequence is a five month transition showing its size continuing to grow and its crescent getting thinner as time progresses.” — Efrain Morales

Serene Scene (Saturn with Tethys)
Even in a peaceful looking scene such as this one of Saturn and its moon Tethys, the Cassini spacecraft reveals clues about how Saturn is ever-changing.
Saturn’s northern hemisphere still shows the scars of the huge storm that raged through much of 2011 (see Chronicling Saturn’s Northern Storm). And, day by day, the shadows cast by the rings on the planet’s southern hemisphere are growing wider as the seasons progress toward northern summer. See The Rite of Spring and Sliding Shadows to learn about the changing seasons and the shadows cast by the rings.

In the Center of Reflection Nebula NGC 1333
The dust is so thick in the center of NGC 1333 that you can hardly see the stars forming. Conversely, the very dust clouds that hide the stars also reflects their optical light, giving NGC 1333’s predominantly blue glow the general designation of a reflection nebula.
